F1 China, Vasseur disappointed with qualifying

It wasn't a sweet morning for the fans Ferrari. In the words of the day before, expressed by the drivers themselves, the SF-24 should have been more competitive than in Japan, but it soon emerged that on the flying lap the car had something less than expected. Not even team principal Frederic Vasseur he expected sixth and seventh place on the starting grid, but the Frenchman is not making any dramas yet and is confident in his race pace. A step that was not seen in the Sprint due to the DRS train commanded by Fernando Alonso, but which tomorrow the SF-24 will also be able to make use of thanks to the strategy.

Vasseur's words

“We are not very satisfied, it was a chaotic session and we expected a better result, honestly. There was a lot of inconsistency for everyone from one session to the next and we struggled too much today, but at least this morning we had a good pace over the long distance and we hope to be able to recover tomorrow“, this is his comment to Sky Sports F1. “The race will be long and everyone had a fair amount of degradation this morning, plus we were in good condition at the end of the stint. It was difficult to overtake in the Sprint because there was a DRS train, but tomorrow will be different because with strategy you can mix the cards“.

“We lost a lot between turns 1 and 3, more than the gap to the first car, and it's a shame because then the rest of the ride was good. We need to understand why she went like this today in qualifying, and she was absolutely not like that in the sprint. We were in good condition in that part of the lap, but now 70% of the gap to Verstappen was there“, he continued.

“Overall it wasn't the result we expected, but we can recover tomorrow. We are always scoring points on Sunday, while last year when we were strong on Saturday, Sundays were difficult. We made a good improvement in the race and we should be able to recover tomorrow: definitely The degradation will be very important, if we manage to manage it well we will have the opportunity to return to the podium. The Leclerc-Sainz fight? I think Carlos was upset after the fight with Fernando but everything is under control“.
