Also for the second free practice session at Phillip Island the dry conditions were confirmed, which allowed the drivers to be immediately faster than in the first tests of the Australian morning. As happened in FP1, the fastest on the track was Johann Zarco (Ducati Prima Pramac) in 1’29.475, which preceded another bike from Borgo Panigale, that of Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati VR46) by just 38 thousandths. Very close to the summit also the revived Pol Espargarò (Honda), who finished at 0 ″ 052. The reigning world champion, as well as championship leader, Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) proved to be solid in Australia, so much so that he finished in fourth place just over a tenth. Signs of recovery from the Aprilia, with Maverick Vinales fifth at 0 ″ 270 and Aleix Espargarò seventh at 0 ″ 357. Between the two was placed in sixth place Marc Marquez (Honda), who brought new Ducati-style rear fins to the track. Three Ducati riders closed the top 10, Francesco Bagnaia eighth – not particularly brilliant this Friday -, Enea Bastianini (team Gresini) and Jorge Martin (team Prima Pramac).
Disappointment of the day Jack Miller (Ducati), only 13th and not very effective in the final time attack.
