The Brazilian trade balance recorded a surplus of 5.363 billion dollars in September, according to data released this Friday by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), which also reduced its projection for the total balance at the end of this year.
September’s result was above what the market expected. A Reuters survey of economists pointed to an expected positive balance of US$4.7 billion for the period.
Last month’s data is the result of 28.789 billion dollars in exports and 23.426 billion dollars in imports.
In this Friday’s presentation, the MDIC made its quarterly review of projections for the year, estimating that the trade balance will close 2024 with a positive balance of 70.4 billion dollars, compared to the previous forecast of a surplus of 79.2 billion dollars .
With the worsening, the expected result for the year is 28.9% below that observed in 2023, when there was a surplus of 98.9 billion dollars.
The projection considers that the country will close 2024 with 335.7 billion dollars in exports, against 345.4 billion dollars estimated in July. The estimate for imports was 265.3 billion dollars, compared to 266.2 billion dollars.
