Government, “the pizza pact”. Giorgetti-Di Maio, Amato al Colle
The dinner between Di Maio and Giorgetti it was not a simple meal between government colleagues, but there would be much more behind that meeting. The two – we read in the Press – would have discussed two very hot topics, Rai and above all Quirinale. The summit has now been renamed “the pizza pact”. Il Colle was the main course on the menu. The factors of uncertainty about the choice, in January, of the next President of the Republic are too many: entire parliamentary groups without control, a horizon of one more year of legislature that strangles the hopes of re-election of many peons, and a prime minister, Mario Draghi , who would be the ideal candidate but who many want to stay at Palazzo Chigi, who to manage the recovery and European money, who because he fears of returning to vote. Draghi could complete the job in the government and perhaps, this is the thesis, apply to lead the European Commission in 2024 to change the Stability Pact.
Faced with these variables and complications – continues La Stampa – the “pizza pact” between the former political leader of the M5S and Giorgetti is based on one objective: to guarantee stability. And it does nothing if their leaders, Giuseppe Conte and Matteo Salvini, have said that Draghi is fine for the Quirinale. They both agree on one point. It would be perfect, and the simplest of choices, if the current Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, 80 years old in July, agreed to stay where he is, for a year, for two, for the entire seven years if he wants. But there is also a plan B: Giuliano Amato. The former premier and constitutional judge was the name on which, in 2015, Forza Italia leader Silvio Berlusconi thought he had an agreement with Matteo Renzi, before the then Prime Minister and secretary of the Democratic Party turned to Mattarella. Amato could count on transversal support.
