The Peruvian Government called an urgent meeting of ministers this Tuesday to analyze the situation of violence in Ecuador, a country with which it shares a porous border of more than 1,500 kilometers. The Minister of Justice, Eduardo Arana, declared to Canal N upon entering that they are “to have a meeting to examine the situation that has arisen in the” neighboring country.

Prime Minister Alberto Otárola and Foreign Minister Javier González-Olaechea participate in the meeting, as well as the Ministers of Defense, Jorge Chávez; Interior, Víctor Torres, and Justice.
The Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa, declared on Monday a state of emergency throughout the country for sixty days, which includes a curfew from 6:00 in the morning. Furthermore, this Tuesday he declared in a decree a “internal armed conflict” in the country due to attacks by organized crime groups whom he identified as “terrorists.”
Noboa signed the decree at times of great tension in the country due to car explosions in different cities, attacks with explosives, kidnapping of police officers and retention of penitentiary agents in the prisons themselves.

“Criminals have taken over a television channel and a university in Guayaquil today. The outrageous images set off alarms in the region. We need to close ranks in the fight against terrorism and organized crime,” he expressed on the same social network.
