Government, Meloni: “Yes to the technicians. I will not be imposed on names that are not up to the task “
“I will not be given names that are not up to the task.” Giorgia Meloni does not intend to bow to the requests of the allies in the formation of the new government, which will also have to find space for area technicians in the roles in which the coalition is more “open”. This is what emerged today during the meeting of the executive of the Brothers of Italy, in the midst of negotiations to form the new executive, the first supported only by the center-right since 2011. “Nobody thinks of solving the internal problems of their movement by proposing names for the ‘executive’, Meloni would have said today according to Il Corriere della Sera, after the requests arrived from the Lega, which yesterday gathered its leaders in Montecitorio.
“I am willing to listen to everyone and take their advice into account, but the principle must be clear. We need an authoritative government of competent people ”, said the leader of the center-right, who according to the Milanese newspaper has authorized the public dissemination of the meaning of her speech.
“I put my face on this government”, he added, specifying that the executive will still be “political” given the clear mandate that came out of the polls, but will see the presence of area experts for positions in which the parties are not able to offer representatives up to par. “There are no vetoes”, reiterated Meloni, referring to the request to assign Matteo Salvini to the Ministry of the Interior, which has so far been received coldly by the top management of FdI.
During the meeting, Meloni also returned to the theme of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr), which the center-right had promised to review during the election campaign. According to the former minister, the delays in the NRP are “evident and difficult to recover”. A lack that “does not depend on us but which will also be attributed to us by those who determined it”, Meloni would have said. An accusation denied by the Prime Minister who is still in office: during the meeting of the control room on the NRP, today Mario Draghi stressed that “there are no delays in the implementation of the PNRR”. “If there were any, the commission would not pay the money,” the head of government said.
