Draghi: “I have a commitment”. He gets up and leaves. Break with the trade unions
Clamorous break between the government and the trade unions for the measures included in the Budget Law. The decisive meeting to find the square turns out to be a flop and even Prime Minister Draghi – we read in Repubblica – gets nervous to the point of getting up and leaving the negotiating table: “Sorry but I have a commitment”, and leaves Palazzo Chigi. He leaves nervous, practically without saying goodbye. He does not want to negotiate with the unions who, piece by piece, have dismantled the maneuver, his first budget law to revive growth. Today there will be a new meeting, on the G20 however. Draghi is surprised by the tones, the quantity of requests, the lack of dialogue spirit, the attitude of vindication.
He explicitly says this to the union leaders, – continues Repubblica – after having listened to them sitting with folded arms. Raise your voice to reject the idea of a new pension reform. It’s already there, it’s his thesis. It is the Fornero reform. It is the first rift between the Draghi government and the social forces. But it was in the air, right from the start of the meeting. The mobilization of the trade unions is now certain, which also means a strike. The three confederations will decide next Saturday. On pensions they did not split. However, the strategy of CGIL, CISL and UIL did not work. Or at least for now it looks like this. They tried to raise the price, but Draghi didn’t give in on anything.
