Information from journalist Jason Schreier puts the recent shutdown of the cloud service into context.
The most shocking news yesterday was the announcement of the closure of Google Stadia, the Google cloud game service that has failed to bear fruit after almost three years available to users. However, that does not mean that the company has not made efforts during this period to try to bring content to the platform, although it does not seem that they have made the right decisions.
In a message shared on his personal Twitter profile, the renowned Bloomberg journalist jason schreier commented that Google’s main problem with Stadia has been treating it like a console release in the 1990s, recalling that according to reliable sources Google has invested tens of millions of dollars for different games who ended up arriving at the service.
He paid 20 million for Assassin’s Creed and The DivisionSpecifically, the journalist points to transactions of this caliber with titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2, the rockstar games mammoth western. Although he does not handle exact figures, he assures that a good part of Google’s strategy was to pay exaggerated amounts of money for large works instead of investing in smaller own developments.
In fact, in one information which he published in March 2021, Schreier was already talking about Google paid $20 million for two Ubisoft portsspecifically, for versions of Assassin’s Creed and The Division for its service, with the French company and Take-Two being two of the main beneficiaries of these initial businesses to put their heads into the world of video games through the cloud.
Shortly after the announcement of the closure, many users reminded Google itself through social networks of a message that they published from the official account just two months ago in which They assured that Stadia would not closea statement that has aged really badly as of September 2022 after the recent news.
