The Google Play Services May 2024 update introduces password sharing between family members.
Google has introduced a new feature that allows users to securely share passwords with members of their family group over the Internet. This makes it easier for everyone in the family access shared services like Netflix and Prime Video. The new feature is included in the May 2024 Google Play Services update, currently rolling out.
The new password sharing feature applies to passwords stored in the Google Password Manager, the Google service that natively stores passwords and passkeys in Chrome and Android, linking them to your Google account. Starting today, the password sharing feature is available on mobile devices, but not yet on Chrome for desktop. Once you share a password with a family member, a copy of it will be saved in that member’s Google Password Manager.
This feature can only be used with people in your Google-approved family group, which it can include up to six people. If you want to share a password with someone outside your family group, you will need to use Nearby Share to transfer it in person or resort to more rudimentary and/or less secure methods.
Password sharing within the family group Significantly improves credential management for common services, reducing the need to remember or manually transmit passwords between family members. This update makes shared access to important services easier, improving security and convenience.
Among the common services we obviously find all the streaming services, which offer plans designed for the giving family utilities even for 4 separate people. Furthermore, all the passwords linked to other services such as Amazon Prime itself, for online purchases, or even for family plans of applications such as Spotify, which allow you to divide the Premium up to 6 people.
