In the United States, a situation out of context and a possible violation of privacy escalated to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) of the country and called a father a criminal who just wanted his son to get well.
That’s right, in February 2021 Mark, an ordinary man, began to notice that his son had a swollen groin. Due to the conditions and restrictions that existed at the time due to the pandemic, Mark and his wife decided to take a picture of him on the recommendation of the doctors so that they could see the problem that the minor was suffering from.
The method worked perfectly, as the professionals made the diagnosis and prescribed some antibiotics that helped him with the discomfort. Mark thought the episode was over; however, Google’s artificial intelligence did not consider the same.
In fact, as reported by ‘The New York Times’, the technological giants made a rapid capture and exchange of digital data, which triggered Mark to become “the target of a police investigation” for child sexual abuse.

In addition to having problems with the law, Google decided to close all the father’s accounts.
In 2021, one year later, the San Francisco Police Department sent him a letter stating that no crime had been committed.
“I determined that the incident did not meet the elements of a crime and that no crime occurred,” Mr. Hillard, an investigator on the case, wrote in his report.
Mark’s case was closed, but Google did not accept the man’s request to appeal the blocking of his accounts.
The discussion about user privacy
Millions of Internet users comment and discuss about privacy and the violation of it by companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
In fact, some people point out that children are the priority; however, there are others who say that when using these platforms, the limits are few.

In the face of concern and debate, A Google spokesman told the aforementioned newspaper that artificial intelligence only scans the photos when the Internet user performs an “affirmative action” such as accepting backup copies or uploading said content to the cloud.
For now, Mark “still hopes to recover his information and the San Francisco police have the content of his Google account preserved on a USB stick,” according to ‘The New York Times’.
