The Community of Madrid has taken another step in the integration of the public transport card in mobile phones. Until now, the transport card app allowed you to recharge your passes, but not carry them on the device itself.
This Monday, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced during the inauguration at IFEMA of the third edition of the Global Mobility Call the activation of the public transport card for mobile phones starting this Tuesday, November 19.
As the president of the Community pointed out, this “is the first step to fully integrate the transport card into the mobile phone throughout 2025.”
In a brief statement, the Community of Madrid points out that this novelty is the first phase of a TTP virtualization process.
However, at the moment, not all mobile phones will be able to use this system. Nor do all the fertilizers. What starts this Tuesday It will be used for the tickets of 10 trips, tourism and the airport supplement.
As for mobile phones, it will be necessary to have reading by NFC with Android 7.0 system and with Google Wallet. In this way, Apple devices with iOS operating system are excluded from this option. Even so, in that statement, the Community of Madrid has specified that the virtualization of the TTP “will also be available for the personal monthly subscription, facilitating its widespread use including iOS technology” for next year.
How to activate the public transport card on your mobile
As mentioned, to be able to carry the tickets for 10 trips, tourist tickets and the airport supplement on your mobile phone, it will be necessary to have a Android device 7.0 or higher and Google Wallet.
For the next six months, the application will be free to download on smartphones. It can be obtained from the Play Store.
