“The END of the School” it's a documentary film on education in Mexico. I've been working on it since I left school. Ministry of Public Education and Culture in Sinaloa (Sepyc). It proposes recovering the passion for learn in schools. The end of everything school It is learning or else it will be the end. It will be transmitted in a digital platform widely known and cinemas of all country.
He documentary film pick up the vision of the and the teachers from different places in the Republic, fathers and mothers of family, academics, activists, authorities and experts international, one of them founder of the PISA test, Andreas Schleicher. I had the opportunity to speak with him again after the Federal Government disqualified the International Program for Student Monitoring (PISA) and the bad results from Mexico on December 6, 2023. From “la mañanera” it was accused that these are “parameters created in the neoliberal era.” Andreas answered me: What is neoliberal about the knowledge and the desire to improve?
MORENA hates everything that means improving. Reprove everything that evaluates your actions. All evaluation is an instrument to improve. Deep down you want annihilate the aspiration of the girlsthe children and youths of Mexico.
Now it was the turn of PISAbut his persistence in destroy any evidence empiricism that strips it is constant. Hence his interest in cancel all evaluations and leave the government in control of “your data.” First was the National Institute of Educational Evaluation (INEE) in 2019; Then came the learning measurements in schools through the National Learning Evaluation Plan (PLANEA), in 2020; then the comparison in learning levels of young people in Latin America, thanks to the UNESCO Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE) in 2021; In 2022, the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) promoted before the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (INEGI) its rejection of the publication of educational data as a source of “national interest”, thereby “turning off the light” to the educational community.
Every time you cancel an evaluation, you cancel an opportunity for improvement for thousands of girls, boys and young people. You hinder their destiny, for at least three reasons. First, these types of exercises strengthen a culture not only of evaluation, but also of “adjustment.” If you have public and timely information, you focus precisely and expose the authority to giving reasons, not “ideologies.”
Second, evaluation forces monitoring of results, freeing you from the whims and interests of children and youth. If the continuity of the data is hindered, “we turn off the light” for the members of the educational community. The boy or girl, the teacher, the families, the educational structure, the competent authority, state or federal, do not have the elements to make decisions.
Third, school is the mechanism par excellence that millions of Mexicans have for a better “opportunity” in life. The results of tests such as PISA seek to adjust, to accompany and guide the efforts of the educational community. In Sinaloa we managed to go from 27th place to number 2 in 2019, for 3rd year of secondary school and from 24th to 2nd in 2020, for 3rd year of high school.
The refusal of the Mexican government to carry out the PISA pilot test leaves Mexico out of the evaluation for 2025. To date, the SEP refuses to provide information. If this attitude of “impasse” persists, Mexico will be the first country in the history of this evaluation to withdraw from it. We have until May 15 to resolve the uprising. No to educational populism.
So be it.
P.S. In the end, the Green-PT-Morena candidate for Federal District 1 did not want to debate. She shied away from the debate. I still don't understand why someone wants to be a parliamentarian and avoids parliamentarians? My conclusion is one: inconsistency. Now I understand why she says she wants to represent the Mazatlans, Concordenses, Rosarenses and Escuinapenses, but she registers for Culiacán in Dto 5. Incongruity is the first cousin of lies.
