An analyst allegedly revealed Apple’s plans for the iPhone and AR.
The AR viewer of Apple it could arrive in 2022, powered by two processors, according to the well-known analyst Apple Ming-Chi Kuo. The device could support both Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) and could sport micro-OLED displays when it launches next year.
Apple has already made great strides in AR technology on the iPhone and iPad with the addition of LiDAR technology to the iPhone 12 Pro. The company’s AR wearables have been rumored for several months, and the analyst believes the company may be looking to replace. the iPhone within a decade. While the Cupertino company has yet to announce plans for AR or VR headsets in the next year, Kuo believes Apple could launch a powerful AR headset in the fourth quarter of 2022. The alleged AR headset could feature similar processing capabilities to a Mac and it could work independently of a Mac (PC) or an iPhone (phone) supporting a wide range of applications.
However for Kuo, the company is planning to completely replace its iPhones with an AR device within ten years: “Apple’s goal is to replace the iPhone with AR in ten years, representing the demand for AR headsets that will exceed at least one billion pieces in ten years. Apple’s sole ABF supplier, Unimicron, will be the main beneficiary“.
The analyst also comments on the giant change the company will have to make if Apple really wants to replace the iPhone. Not only will this product have to work with a “broad range” of applications rather than specific apps, the company will also have to sell “at least” 1 billion AR devices over 10 years.
