The numbers coming from the market speak of an interest in Ford Fiesta less and less widespread. Also for this reason, the car manufacturer of the Blue Oval has announced that one of its most successful B-segments will be withdrawn from production and will no longer be marketed: no electric successor in sight for Fiesta, which in 2021 in Europe was registered in just over 38,000 units, 45% less than the previous year. A degrowth that did not go unnoticed by Ford, who took one final decision.
In fact, in recent years, the SUV segment has taken over the sedans and supermini segments, and Ford Fiesta has also ended up among the “sacrificial victims“: Rivals of the caliber of Opel Corsa or Ford Puma have been much more successful than the B segment of the Blue Oval, which despite a recent restyling does not even figure among the fifty best-selling models in August throughout the Old Continent. A failure also confirmed by the numbers then, and that Ford will soon turn into drastic decisions: according to reports from The Sun, the car manufacturer of the Blue Oval could already be eliminated over the next year, probably to make way for the launch of the electric version of Puma expected in 2024. Not an easy choice for Ford, given that Fiesta has been on the market for 46 years and seven generations.
“We are accelerating our efforts for focus on electrification and then review our vehicle portfolio in line with our corporate strategy. We do not comment on speculations and we will share more information in the coming months “, reads a Ford note reported by Autocar. Fiesta should therefore follow in the footsteps of Focuswhose withdrawal should take place in 2025, even if the latter will be replaced by an electric crossover: it will be one of the four new electric models expected by 2024, and in the range it will be placed between the next Puma EV and the current Mustang Mach-E.
