The new Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, María González Veracruz, promised her position on Monday before the retirement of her previous head, Roberto Sánchez.
The change at the head of the Secretary of State took place in an act presided over by the First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, who thanked Sánchez for her work in the position since the arrival of the minister to her position a little more than four years.
The Secretary General for Telecommunications and Audiovisual Communication Services, Arturo Azcorra, the Director General for the Treasury and Financial Policy, Álvaro López, and the Technical Secretary General, Francisco Javier Peñalver, also took office at the ceremony.
Calviño thanked the entire Ministry team for their work and showed his “tranquility” before the “excellent professionals” who took office.
“There is a lot of work to do, I am not fooling anyone here,” added the vice president in her speech, who acknowledged that it has been four “very hard” years and four months at the work level for the department.
Calviño reviewed the priorities in terms of digital transformation with the closing of the digital divide and the arrival of high-speed connectivity throughout the territory.
During her speech, the new Secretary of State also referred to the importance of connectivity reaching the entire population, as well as equal opportunities.

González Veracruz has a degree in biochemistry and was a socialist deputy for the Region of Murcia between 2011 and 2019, as well as federal head of the PSOE of the executive commissions of technology, science and innovation between 2008 and 2016.
During his time in the Lower House, he was the PSOE rapporteur for several laws related to the sector, such as the previous revision of the General Telecommunications Law.
