Golf | Henrik Stenson and Luke Donald nominated for European Ryder Cup 2023: “Young people must lead by example”

Europe wants compensation for the stubborn loss it suffered against the United States last autumn.

Henrik Stenson and Luke Donald are the strongest names for the European team’s next captain in the Ryder Cup of golf.

Stenson and Donald were European vice captains in a match against the United States that ended in a landslide last fall. The U.S. winning numbers at the Whistling Straits field in Wisconsin were 19-9.

In the loss match, the Irish team was captained by an Irishman Padraig Harrington, whose player selections provoked criticism.

The next Ryder Cup will be played in the fall of 2023 at Marco Simone Field near Rome.

Stenson, 45, has played five times in the Ryder Cup and would be the first Swedish captain.

The Englishman Donald was Danish Thomas Bjørnin as a captain in 2018, when Europe defeated the United States in Paris.

Donald was most recently played in the 2012 Ryder Cup.

“Stenson and Donald would both fit in perfectly as the next captain. They are in the minds of the players, and young people need role models, ”said the Englishman who made the idea public. Ian Poulter told the BBC.
