Succeeding a car as iconic and large as the Volkswagen Beetle was no easy task in the 1970s. The car was already a few decades old, but still scored well with some updates. The Volkswagen Golf would therefore have to take on a tough task. The history is known: the Golf, presented in 1974, has been Volkswagen's middle class for eight generations and 37 million units have been sold.

Well no. The Volkswagen Golf Edition 50 is a bit weak. It is actually mainly some options that you could already get on the Golf, but already checked for you. So you pay for the edition and get things like LED lights, optional rims and a few small touches that are unique to the Edition 50. For example, Edition 50 is written on the door sills, on the B-pillar and on the steering wheel. And pedals with brushed aluminum finish. Go ahead.
A bit weak, isn't it? It is actually a kind of 'First Edition', but disguised as a festive edition for a milestone of your most important model. Hopefully there will be another muddy GTI with the 50 year celebrations or something like that. The Edition 50 is not limited in advance: we expect that you can order it during 2024 and no longer after that.

Speaking of ordering: the announcement of the Edition 50 is accompanied by the start of sales in Germany. As a result, it is also known that the Golf will cost everything from 27,180 euros, with a starting price of 28,280 euros for the Variant. You can also configure it there, but we would like to say the following: a nicer color palette would have been nice.
For this you will have to order the GTI or the R. The GTI isn't listed yet and the R hasn't even been revealed yet. We expect Dutch prices to be around the corner very soon.
