Tomorrow, Wednesday, the golf team will launch its participation in the Eisenhower Cup, the world’s oldest and most important tournament for amateur players, which will be held at Le Golf International in the suburbs of the French capital, Paris.
The tournament, which runs until September 3, will be attended by players from 72 countries, including 7 Arab countries, namely the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Qatar and Morocco.
The delegation of our team in the tournament is headed by Major General Pilot “M” Abdullah Al-Sayed Al-Hashemi, Vice President of the Golf Association, and includes Akram Skaik, Director of the Golf Federation and the team administrator, and players Ahmed Skaik, ranked 63 in the world, Khaled Al Jasmi and Abdullah Muhammad Al Musharkh.
Our team will begin its participation in the tournament by facing the players of the Dominican and Serbian teams, while the Saudi team has been drawn against Finland and Ecuador, and Bahrain is facing a challenge with England and Belgium.
Lebanon will start its campaign with Lithuania and Trinidad and Tobago, while Egypt will meet with Slovakia and the Philippines, Qatar will face Poland and Mexico, and Morocco will start its participation against Iceland and Uruguay.
Our team prepared for the tournament through internal and external gatherings, the most recent of which was its camp in Morocco from August 13 to 27, which included two stations in the cities of Rabat and Ifrane, during which the team underwent intensive training and friendly experiences with Morocco, and the players of the New Jersey American Academy team.
Major General Pilot “M” Abdullah Al-Sayed Al-Hashemi expressed his satisfaction with the team’s players’ readiness before the start of the tournament. This tournament is an important station that brings together the country’s players with the world’s elite.”
He added, “The Eisenhower Cup is the second largest and most prestigious amateur golf tournament at the international level, and therefore the federation is keen for our team to participate in this important benefit, with the aim of gaining experience of friction with world players, and preparing for future benefits, most notably the return of the men’s team’s participation in the Arab Championship in Tunisia.”
