The Golden Globe awards for the film and TV industry were handed out on the night before Monday, Finnish time, in Los Angeles, USA.
Movie- and TV industry's major award show, the Golden Globes, drew 9.4 million viewers, CBS reported on Monday, according to Reuters. Viewership increased by 50 percent from a year ago.
The CBS channel broadcast the gala live in the United States.
Last year, the gala was televised on the NBC channel, but it received a record low number of viewers. In 2023, the gala gathered only 6.3 million viewers.
In recent years, the credibility of the gala has been in a major crisis. The Hollywood entertainment editors' association HFPA, which decides on the nominations and organizes the gala, has been embroiled in several uproars, when it has been criticized for, among other things, its secretive membership policy, lack of black members and considerable wealth.
In 2022, Kohut had swelled to a situation where the gala was organized without an audience and a red carpet. Several famous actors refused to participate in the party, and none of the film industry magazines advertised it.
In the summer of 2023, the HFPA was dissolved after selling the rights to the gala to media company Dick Clark Productions and investment company Eldridge.
This year, the number of members of the jury that decides on the awards was increased from the previous 90 to more than 300. At the same time, efforts were also made to take care of the diversity of the Golden Globe jury much better than before.
