Apparently God of War Ragnarok it was sold in some retail stores ten days before release, causing significant spoilers about the story.
Several social media users began posting major spoilers about the end of the game this weekend, including a video that appears to be the entire conclusion.
The creative director of Sony Santa Monica, Cory Barlog, expressed his frustration at the situation on Twitter. “A retailer who sells the game almost TWO WEEKS prior to release. Really disappointing“, he wrote.
“I’m sorry for everyone who has to avoid spoilers“Barlog continued.”It is completely stupid that you have to do this. That’s not how none of us at SMS wanted things to go“.
“Right now, I can really understand the benefit of only having one installer on the physical disk“, referring to the recent news that the Modern Warfare 2 retail disc contains a fraction of the game.
Ragnarok’s narrative director also vented his frustration on social media.
“Stay away from social media, Reddit, YouTube, etc. unless you’re really confident in your ability to silence hashtags and block people“, he wrote Matt Sophos. “I’m very sorry for anyone who has had our game ruined in some way. We have tried to keep things surprising for you“.
“Unfortunately there are trolls who arm themselves with spoilers, retailers who violate the release date … so on and so forth.“.
Responding to a fan who wondered if the leaks were coming from the first reviewed copies, Sophos said they didn’t.
“First, * I * haven’t posted anything. Second, journalists need more than 3 days to play our full game and prepare their reviews (print or video). Third, the recent leaks have not come from the reviewers. They came from retailers who have anticipated the release date“.
God of War Ragnarök was originally scheduled for release last year, but Sony has postponed it to 2022 to help developer Santa Monica Studio make it happen. “a game of the highest quality while maintaining safety and well-being“of his team.
