In just 15 days, elements of the National Guard made at least four arrests of United States citizens who were transporting various weapons and useful cartridges concealed in their vehicles at the border crossings of Chihuahua Y Sonora, in what is known as ant trafficking.
The arrests are joined by one more than one Mexican in Juarez City, another in Culiacan, Sinaloa, and the discovery of an apparently abandoned shipment of gunpowder at the bus station in New Lion.
In total, between July 15 and August 1, according to the information released by the corporation, 429 magazines, three long guns, six short weapons, 3,300 brass cartridges with gunpowder loading and 400 useful cartridges were secured. .
According to the diagnosis made by the Secretary of Foreign Relations (SRE) at the beginning of the year, “ant traffic” it would have presented a rebound, particularly in Chihuahua.
In addition, according to the same report, from January 1, 2019 to January 27, 2021, a total of 1,585 people would have been detained for arms trafficking, of which 95 percent of the people had American nationality.
The arrests were carried out in Chihuahua, at the Reforma International Bridge in Ciudad Juárez, and at the Córdova de las Américas International Bridge, in a coordinated effort between members of the National Guard, the Mexican Army and personnel of the General Customs Administration (AGA) attached to the Tax Administration Service (SAT).
In the first action, a person was detained who was carrying 330 chargers for long weapons and 99 for short weapons, 20 barrels for long weapons, 73 components and mechanisms for firearms and a bag of various spare parts in his vehicle; and in the second case, a US citizen was arrested who was hiding three long firearms in the back seat of his vehicle.
Another arrest was carried out at Garita I Puerta México in Nogales, in Sonora; 34 cartridges of various calibers, eleven magazines and six short firearms, in addition to one telescopic sight and various components and mechanisms for firearms; three US citizens were arrested.
To these actions is added that of a person who moved 400 cartridges between the seats of a truck on the roads of Culiacán, Sinaloa, and the assurance of a box in an apparent state of abandonment that contained 3,300 brass cartridges loaded with gunpowder .
1,600 marijuana plants intercepted in Zacatecas
Elements of the National Guard detained two people who were transporting eight trays, each with around 200 marijuana plants in their growth phase in the vicinity of the municipality of Teúl de González Ortega, in Zacatecas.
The arrest was allegedly carried out when members of the corporation stopped a truck type pick up who was driving with tinted windows on the road Guadalajara-Malpaso, in the section San Cristóbal de la Barranca-Malpaso. Upon stopping, the uniformed officers noticed the shipment and proceeded with the arrest.
