General Motors announced the temporary suspension of truck and SUV production at two of its U.S. assembly plants, located in Texas and Michigan. This decision, Reuters reports, was taken due to the negative effects of the hurricane Helena is having on the American car manufacturer’s suppliers. Specifically, production at the Flint Assembly, Michigan, and Arlington Assembly, Texas plants was canceled for all shifts on Thursday and Friday.
GM stops production
A measure that was defined as necessary by the US company itself, to address the logistical and production difficulties caused by the hurricane, which hit several areas and had repercussions on the supply chain. “We are working with these suppliers to resume operations as quickly and safely as possible for their employees and their communities, as we seek to minimize impacts on our factories”said GM, which wants to guarantee the safety of workers and hopes to restore productivity quickly.
Models involved
The factories involved in the suspension produce some of GM’s most iconic models: specifically, the Arlington Assembly is responsible for building the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and the Cadillac Escalade, while the Flint Assembly produces the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The temporary closure of these plants, according to Reuters, will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the availability of these vehicles on the market: consumers and dealers will have to prepare for possible delays in the production and delivery of the vehicles.
