Another summer in which Xbox Showcase It is positioned as the best conference among all those on video game news. We honestly think it did pretty well and had a little bit of everything. With new glimpses of already announced games, totally unexpected but welcome revelations and they practically did not stop when it came to making announcements, making the most of their time.
Even so, not everything can be perfect and we feel that they still have some small details that need to be ironed out. If they listen to us and solve them, next year they may have the perfect showcase that will make PlayStation fans 1000 kilometers around cry.
The bugs that Xbox must correct
Xbox did it very well, but they should stop showing CGI trailers now
We already talked about how they made good use of their time by showing us trailer after trailer after trailer without stopping to promote uninteresting things. But Xbox still continues with a sin that should already disappear in our opinion: pure CGI advances.
Especially in this time where we are already often disappointed with games that looked very promising, we believe that all companies, not just Xbox, should show the playability of their titles. A CGI trailer really only tells us the story of a game. While narrative already has more weight in today’s industry, the most important thing will always be how it is played.
The Xbox Showcase still showed us quite a few of these. Although we were excited by the reveal of the new Gears of War and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, we would have liked more to see them actually in action. This way they would even be more exciting and show us the capabilities of their console when playing.
Fortunately there are fewer and fewer and they certainly focused on giving us gameplay of other highly anticipated titles such as fable and Avowed. We hope that for next year they will only focus on games that already have something to show beyond a very nice CGI trailer.
Why so much secrecy with departure dates?
Now on to the next little problem with the Xbox Showcase: its lack of release date for most of its games. Many of them didn’t even give us a release window. We know that some are still a little far away. After all, they did indicate that some titles such as fable and the new Doom. But why so much secrecy with those who supposedly arrive in 2024?
Among those who we know are arriving this year we have: Avowed and Indiana Jones. Although both were present with new advances, they continue to simply say that they will come out in 2024. When? Only Don Phil knows. This year there are only 6 months left so it would make sense for them to start the promotion now if they will really come out during this time.
Otherwise they only make us worry that they may be delayed further. Let us remember that last year they presented fable as a 2024 game and just a few days ago they already delayed it until 2025. Do you see why we want the security of release dates?
The Xbox Showcase seemed more focused on announcing that they will be Game Pass games from day one. Very nice, we applaud them and we will give them a chance in the service. But please tell me when damn day one is!
There is room for the Xbox Showcase to improve and become one of the most anticipated events year after year
Even with the shortcomings we mentioned there is no way to deny that Xbox has a good eye for ‘spectacle’ which was also demonstrated with their selection of the games they showed. There was a very good mix of already announced titles that are not yet out and totally new experiences. All to give us a showcase that surely had something to excite different tastes.
If they continue like this they could easily turn their showcases into the most anticipated events of the year and even surpass other more anticipated events. The competition should follow suit by focusing on just gaming ads, but of course taking advantage of these areas of opportunity. What else do you think could improve with Xbox for its next presentations?
