Today, on the occasion of World Refugee Day, the 2022 pink jersey of the Giro Donne was delivered to UNHCR during the round table “Refugees, from asylum to integration: partnerships and innovative solutions for an unprecedented crisis” held at the Congress Center Palazzo Rospigliosi in Rome. A gesture, that of the organizers of the PMG Sport / Starlight Women’s Tour, in the name of solidarity and peace towards the UN Refugee Agency, twice awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, present in 135 countries and committed to 100 millions of people, mostly women and children.

“We are here to wear this shirt with great satisfaction which, in our simplicity, tells us that sport wants to be alongside UNHCR and refugees through the symbol of the race. The jersey will be worn by the leader, it will be seen in about 200 countries around the world, millions of people will attend this race “said Roberto Ruini, director of the Giro Donne. Until the end of the event, the Together #WithRefugees campaign will continue, raising funds for of refugees from all over the world, also with the presence of UNHCR dialogues during the stages of the sporting event, committed to promoting regular subscriptions that allow those who carry them out to become “Refugee Angels”.

The Giro women will start on 30 June from Cagliari to finish in Padua on 10 July after crossing Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto. A course of 1,000 km that will see 144 athletes from the best 24 teams in the world at the start: there will be among others the world champion Elisa Balsamo, the three-time Italian champion and winner of the Roubaix, Elisa Longo Borghini, Marta Cavalli (first in Amstel Gold Race and at the Freccia Vallone), Marta Bastianelli, Chiara Consonni, Vittoria Guazzini, Sofia Bertizzolo, the best of our movement.
