“Thanks for the great strategy”. Antonio Giovinazzi in the lap of honor he could not spare the Alfa Romeo wall a dig to partially vent the great frustration felt at the end of a Mexican Grand Prix that started in an amazing way, a joy that lasted a few laps, or the time to be called back to the pits to mount the hard compound and find himself sent to the track behind Daniel Ricciardo and Valtteri Bottas, fighting each other with hard tires that are practically fresh and very slow in terms of lap time.
Antonio Giovinazzi occupied the seventh position and in light of this strategy he finished the race in eleventh position behind Lando Norris. A tactic set by the Alfa Romeo wall which as the only explanation has that of having ‘tested’ the hard tires with Antonio Giovinazzi to better manage the race of Kimi Raikkonen, eighth at the finish.
The Alfa Romeo team principal, Frederic Vasseur, commented on a positive Sunday for the Hinwil team: “As in the last few races, in Mexico we were competitive throughout the weekend, showing an excellent performance even on the Sunday of the Grand Prix when it counted and the result proves it. This eighth place is an injection of confidence in view of the last races. A pity not to have finished with two cars in the points, but after the break the race did not go towards Antonio. We all win and lose together as a team, we will be back on track even stronger starting from the Brazilian Grand Prix ”.
