The current spokesman in the Consistory points out that he will continue working as a councilor until the end of the legislature
The spokesman for the Municipal Group of Podemos-Equo in the Murcia City Council, Ginés Ruiz Maciá, announced this Thursday morning that he will not appear in the primaries to lead the list for Murcia with this formation for the next municipal elections in May 2023. However, he pointed out that he will continue in his position as councilor until the end of this legislature.
Ruiz, who pointed out that he has not yet considered whether or not he will continue in Podemos when this term ends (“I haven’t even thought about it”), explained that the lack of support and recognition of his work by the municipal and regional leadership of This political formation has led him to make this decision. “It is not comfortable to do a job in certain circumstances,” he said, indicating that he did not know at what point in time he began to not have this support. “Without telling me, they have done so expressly in several acts and calls” that had to do with municipal issues “without notifying the municipal group.”
The spokesman in the City Council of the purple formation insisted that “today the leadership” of the party already has a free hand to count on who “it recognizes as its own and gives it all its support; I wish you the best of luck.” Regarding whether there was a possibility that he would join other existing political parties or that could be formed on the left, Ruiz Maciá pointed out that “as of today, no; I am a councilor for Podemos and beyond that I don’t know what will happen in the future.” He acknowledged that there had been “comments” but “no concrete offer.”
The councilor-spokesperson, who is a practicing lawyer, wanted to make it clear that “wherever I am, I will always work for a municipality that has a lot of room for improvement; as I have done before becoming a councilor and I will continue to do so». And he insisted: “The decision I make (to continue in politics) will not be based on a labor issue.”
Finally, Ginés Ruiz Maciá commented that “it would be a mistake” if the left beyond the PSOE did not reach an agreement to run together in the next elections. “I know that there are open processes and that there is talk, but I don’t know where it will go.”
