Since their mass appearance on the Italian market, an evident trend in particular since 2015, pedal assisted e-bikes have won a quick consensus in a wide audience among cycling enthusiasts and neophytes of two-wheeled pedals. In the exponential growth of pedal assisted electric bicycles, a central role is played by the bi-amortized e-mtb models, a sector in which the new Giant Trance X E + Pro, a version at the top of the range signed by the company based in Taiwan. Features? This novelty – which we tested on the hilly dirt roads north of Milan – thanks to an engine capable of ensuring 80 Nm of maximum torque, the “maxi” 625 Wh battery and the generous excursion that allows you to overcome obstacles of all kinds on the mountain trail, winks at those looking for a passe-partout e-bike. The price is generous, equal to 6,199 euros, although in line with the competition.
GIANT TRANCE X E + PRO: HOW IT’S MADE
Made starting from an aluminum frame, the Giant Trance X E + Pro e-bike is equipped with 29 “wheels combined with” plus “tires with a generous 2.6 ” section, fork with 150 mm travel and central shock absorber from 140 mm that can be adjusted in three different positions, characteristics that make this model an assisted bicycle suitable for mountain trails (not excessively technical) and leisure. The transmission is signed by Shimano with Deore XT group and 12-speed gearbox with the front mono-chainring, an increasingly popular solution on this type of e-mtb. The braking system includes 203mm discs with four-piston calipers.
GIANT TRANCE X E + PRO: THE ELECTRIC KIT
Among the secrets of the Giant Trance X E + Pro off-road e-bike is the electric kit, impressive (in size and weight of 26.5 kg) and capable of ensuring considerable autonomy. In detail, the assisted bicycle is equipped with the 250 Watt SyncDrive Pro motor with a torque of 80 Nm (powered by Yamaha) and a 625 Wh EnergyPack battery (removable), incorporated in the down tube of the frame. The electric kit has five assistance modes that can be adjusted using the control on the left side of the handlebar: Eco, Eco +, Active, Sport and Power. The latter returns up to 360% of the energy produced by the cyclist’s muscles. The battery allows a declared maximum autonomy of 180 km, but it should be remembered that this value is influenced by multiple factors: weight of the rider, type of route, external temperature, “age” of the battery. To recharge the battery you use the common domestic socket (this kit allows you to recharge up to 80% in just over two hours), keeping the battery in its seat, or extracting it (becoming familiar with the quick release screw, which does not requires keys or tools) to carry out the charging cycle at home or in the office.
GIANT TRANCE X E + PRO: CONNECTED TECHNOLOGIES
To manage some functions of the Giant Trance X E + Pro electric e-bike it is possible to use the App of the Taiwanese house which, via smartphone, with Bluetooth connection, allows you to trace both the pedaled routes and to program the experiences in the saddle, even by intervening on the regulation of electric power according to personal tastes. How? Through six sensors that measure the power exerted by pedaling in real time and, consequently, allow the electronics to recreate a natural driving experience.
GIANT TRANCE X E + PRO: HOW IT GOES
The Giant Trance X E + Pro pedal assisted bicycle is fully part of the all-mountain (models suitable for various types of routes, but less extreme than the enduro), a bike built for leisure, especially for dirt roads and trails , hilly and mountain, even fairly demanding where the geometry of the frame, the excursion of the fork and shock absorber, the height of the wagon and the capacity of the electric kit allow a safe ride. To avoid, due to the considerable weight, the more technical and demanding routes – at high altitude, on single tracks – where the agility of the vehicle may not be sufficient. Furthermore, the aforementioned characteristics make the Giant Trance X E + Pro an ideal electric bicycle also for everyday use and in the city, where the large diameter wheels and “maxi” tires ensure remarkable grip, even on wet asphalt or obstacles. urban areas such as tram tracks. Tested in particular in extra-urban environments, alternating simple dirt roads, wide hilly paths but characterized by remarkable “tears”, and portions of single-track, this Giant novelty has shown remarkable qualities of smoothness and grip, confirming itself as an ideal ally in paths not too complicated on a technical level; in the latter, the weight of 26.5 kg conditions agility in tight movements. The electric motor stands out for its quietness (with the classic “buzz” effect of many e-bikes that is in fact non-existent) and torque, while the battery ensures considerable autonomy.
