Giani Infantino, president of the FIFA, continues with his project to revolutionize football as we know it. The Italian boss presented a new regulation in which the transfer of footballers older than 21 years in all the clubs of the world. The reason for this change is to avoid the overpopulation of soccer players in a team, generate fairer competition and encourage the development of young people.
“From July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, a club may loan a maximum of eight professionals and include eight professionals on loan at any time during a season.”
– Official FIFA statement
However, the amount stipulated by the FIFA at this time it will not be definitive, as it will be reduced over the seasons. The intention, according to its own FIFA, will go down to seven in the season 2023–24 and finally to six in the 2024–25. Likewise, it has been confirmed that all players under the age of 21 years will not be taken into account for the purposes of said rule.
Finally, the new regulation prohibits for the first time the transfers to a third club of footballers who were previously on loan, as well as limiting the number of players that two teams can loan per season to three.
