When the Red Cross and ambulance rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident, Pezzolato was already in cardiac arrest.
The weekend ended with an accident, yet another, on our roads and with a dramatic outcome which also involved a famous sportsman among its numbers. We’re talking Giancarlo Pezzolato75 years old, famous bowls champion, who tragically lost his life in a car accident early yesterday morning.
THE’accident in which Pezzolato lost his life occurred while the sportsman was driving his adorable yellow Bianchina, near the outskirts of Campagnola, Reggio Emilia, the place where the man lived.
The reasons what happened is yet to be ascertained, but we know that Pezzolato’s car collided head-on with a Renault Clio, driven by a 34-year-old from Cadelbosco Sopra, who however escaped unharmed from the accident. The dramatic event occurred at the crack of dawn, around 7am on Sunday 29 September and it is likely that falling asleep or a distraction was responsible.
When i rescuers of the Red Cross and the medical team arrived at the scene of the accident, Pezzolato was already in cardiac arrest. Conditions, in fact, immediately appeared desperate. The Parma air ambulance also arrived on site. Despite timely interventions, the 75-year-old was transported in critical condition to the Guastalla emergency room, where he died shortly after.
The body was handed over to the judiciary, which in the next few hours will decide whether to order aautopsy. It must be established whether the cause of Pezzolato’s death was due to the trauma of the accident or to an illness that occurred in the car. The investigations of the accident were carried out by the Carabinieri of Campagnola, supported by colleagues from Novellara and the mobile radio unit of Guastalla. The police also recovered the hunting equipment that Pezzolato had with him in the car. The man was going on a hunting trip.
Giancarlo Pezzolato leaves behind his wife and two daughters. He worked in a mechanical company and had been retired for a few years. Pezzolato was well known in his community for his passion for hunting and for bowling gamewho practiced at a competitive level. A friend of his, interviewed after receiving the bad news, recalled: “We competed together. I can say without rhetoric that he was a person of great humanity. He was a bowls champion, now he played in Serie C, but in the past he had also reached Serie A.”
