Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut – Iki Island Trailer
Ghost of Tsushima: Journey into the dark secrets of Iki Island
A disturbing past and new threats await Jin Sakai.
It’s been a pretty long year for us on the Sucker Punch team (and all of you). Last July we released Ghost of Tsushima while working from home. We are truly grateful for the positive feedback we have received from players around the world. A year later, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is scheduled for release on August 20. We can’t wait to share Jin Sakai’s new adventures with you all!
In the Director’s Cut version, you will be able to play a new expansion starring Jin, set on the island of Iki with new places to discover, characters to meet, stories to complete and much more.
Jin’s journey begins after discovering that a mysterious Mongolian tribe has taken over Iki. The Mongolian forces are led by the revered shaman Ankhsar Khatun, known to her followers as “the Eagle”. As a khatun and shaman, the Eagle is not only a conqueror, but a true shepherd of souls. The danger it represents for Jin and his people is something new and different from anything he has already faced.
The only way for Jin to counter this threat is to return to Iki Island. Been there once before. As he faces a new and dangerous enemy, he will be forced to deal with old fears and unearth traumas buried deep within. By exploring a new island and facing new threats, Jin will also be able to delve into the dark past of the Sakai clan…
Our partially fictional version of the island of Iki offers a stark contrast to Tsushima. It is a wild and lawless land inhabited by marauders and criminals, marked by war memories and with a fiercely independent spirit: for decades, samurai have had no power on this island. As skilled as he is, however, Jin cannot face the Mongols alone. He will have to collaborate with (or sometimes circumvent) a series of characters of dubious morality to defeat the Eagle. The cost of bankruptcy is too high. If the Eagle and his tribe succeed in subduing Iki by winning the support of his people, Tsushima and the rest of Japan will be in grave danger.
The stories about Tsushima are full of action and adventure. The same goes for the island of Iki! In the fight to save Iki, Jin will encounter pirates and smugglers, mad monks and haunted caves. There will be new legends to hear and new techniques to learn. Jin will have to use all his skills to defeat this new enemy.
Of course, there will be no shortage of intimate, emotional and personal stories. Stories of real people struggling with old resentments and complicated war situations. Stories about the conflict between defending your home and coming to terms with your beliefs. What it means to be Lord Sakai… and what it means to be the Ghost.
After what happened over the last year, it is no coincidence that we decided to tell a story focused on the healing process… We thought it would be a unique and compelling challenge for our Jin. No one is immune to injury, from the humblest farmer to the most powerful jito. Wounds of the past that accompany us incessantly. And injuries, unlike enemies, cannot be faced in a duel or stealthily bypassed. Spooky weapons and samurai techniques won’t be of any help. A wound can only be healed.
Iki Island Expansion content will be available within Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. You can pre-order now for € 79.99 for PS5 and € 69.99 for PS4 or, if you already own Ghost of Tsushima for PS4, you can pre-order the upgrade to Director’s Cut on PS4 at € 19.99.
We are thrilled that you can once again experience our world through Jin Sakai’s eyes! It has been a joy and a privilege to write for such an exceptional cast… some you will recognize, others will surprise you (or maybe both)! There are still so many things to say and we can’t wait to share with you before the launch on August 20th.
When you land on the island of Iki, keep in mind the words of a wise woman named Yuriko: “The strength we need is already with us.”
Thinking back to my team and what we have managed to do in such a troubled year, I think he is right. And I think Jin Sakai would agree too.
