Jason Schreier has returned to deny some rumors regarding Sucker Punch and the alleged delay of Ghost of Tsushima 2 due to a new Sly Cooper. According to the Bloomberg journalist, considered the most reliable in the sector, there is nothing true.
In the past few hours, a rumor has spread that the development of Ghost of Tsushima 2 would be slowed down by a second project carried out by the development studio sucker Punch: A next-gen Sly Cooper game. Journalist Jeff Grubb reported it in his latest video “Perfect Dark and Summer Game Mess update“. Given the source, the information was then picked up by other gamers and began to spread online.
There’s nothing true about it
In reality, already two years ago Sucker Punch had declared that he was not working on any Sly Cooper, which should have already put an end to the question, but Schreier has decided to be more explicit to curb the return of the indiscretion, stating that it is completely false.
“That’s not true in any way, I’m sorry to tell you. Sucker Punch is a one-project-at-a-time studio. The reason Ghost of Tsushima 2 isn’t out yet is because the AAA games they now take 5-7 years to make. (Also, Sucker Punch is smaller than many other AAA developers).” Schreier explained in a post on of development.
It’s simply no longer possible for a AAA studio to release games too frequently, unless it has multiple internal teams, as is the case with Insomniac Games. Ghost of Tsushima was released on PS4 in July 2020, so a possible sequel, if confirmed, could arrive in 2025 (difficult) or more likely between 2026 and 2027, assuming everything goes smoothly. Furthermore, with similar development times, which allow us to launch on average one or two games per generation, thinking that studios, even the biggest ones, can pull games out of the hat is pure naivety.
