He faces up to 65 years in prison, but if he starts working with the federal prosecutor’s office he could possibly get a penalty discount or better prison conditions
Ghislaine Maxwell, the friend of Jeffrey Epstein, may have decided to speak and to name other important people who frequented the homes of the pedophile, after the sentence of the New York court that found her guilty of five of the six crimes of which she was accused of. Maxwell faces up to 65 years in prison, but if he starts working with the federal prosecutor’s office, he could possibly get a penalty discount or better prison terms.
In the jury’s ruling, which deliberated for 40 hours, Maxwell is effectively recognized as a sexual predator who procured underage girls for Epstein. During the trial she behaved very coldly. She did not want to testify and at the time of the sentence she drank a glass of water, leaned on one of her lawyers who embraced her, got up and left the courtroom without greeting anyone. In the courtroom it was forbidden to take photographs and there was, as is regularly the case in American courts, a designer who portrayed the characters for the newspapers. At one point, Maxwell drew the designer on a piece of paper, which she drew while drawing her.
The coldness of the accused made many think that her trial did not end there. A day before the sentencing she was approached in court by James Hill, an ABC producer, and conversed with him before an agent turned him away. Someone swears they have heard her say that she is willing to talk to television and newspapers. Her closest relatives, who attended each hearing, continue to defend her and have announced that they will appeal the sentence.
Many American and British commentators have wondered in recent weeks why famous people were left out of the trial and why only a few pages of Maxwell’s “black agenda”, a copy of Epstein’s, were allowed in the courtroom. Were there any names to hide? A witness who would have had a lot to say, Virginia Roberts Giuffré, the woman who accuses Prince Andrew in another civil case in New York, was not summoned, although she said she was willing to testify. Roberts said he had “lived with the horror of Maxwell’s abuse” and it would be important to hear his testimony.
The names of Epstein’s influential friends such as Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump were not given by the victims called to testify. Of the more than 200 girls who have sought compensation from the fund established with the Epstein Estate, only five or six have been summoned by the prosecution. Piers Morgan, one of Britain’s most biting commentators, tweeted: “Will the vile sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell now sing like a canary to avoid spending the rest of her life in prison? If it does, there could be a lot of rich, powerful and famous people sweating tonight … and not sweating. ” The reference to not sweating is addressed precisely to Prince Andrew, who had defended himself from Roberts’ accusations by saying that he never sweats, as instead stated by the woman.
Many others, especially women, invited Ghislaine to speak. Walt Disney’s great-granddaughter, Abigail: “Ghislaine, if you want redemption, I hope you’ll name a few, because those bastards shouldn’t be hiding anymore.” Republican MP Marjorie Taylor Greeney, an ally of Donald Trump: “Jeffrey Epstein’s entire network should be made public and his fortune should go to his victims.” And another Republican, Lauren Boebert: “The public deserves to know every single person involved in Epstein’s sex trafficking network.”
During the trial it was discovered that the pedophile, who committed suicide in his cell in 2019, had been 17 times in the White House during Bill Clinton’s presidency, the first time a few weeks after taking office in 1993. The former president traveled 26 times on Epstein’s plane, called “Lolita Express” and Maxwell was present at the wedding of his daughter Chelsea. Donald Trump also took advantage of the plane on at least seven occasions. In Florida, his house is close to the one Epstein owned, and he would occasionally take a ride. Bill Gates admitted friendship with the pedophile, and added that he regretted it.
Next week, as requested by Andrea’s lawyers, the agreement signed in 2008 by Roberts Giuffré with Jeffrey Epstein will be announced, which would contain the commitment to keep quiet in exchange for compensation. The lawyers of Queen Elizabeth’s son try every quibble to get him out of trouble, but after the Maxwell sentence it will no longer be possible: the photo in which he surrounds the life of Virginia, at the time seventeen, alongside a smiling sexual predator of minors , forever condemns him.
