Sterilgarda, the food company producing milk from Castiglione delle Stiviere, in the province of Mantua, has asked all its 350 employees to get vaccinated, under penalty of suspension of work.
The chairman of the board of directors Fernando Sarzi sent a letter to employees and suppliers in which he communicated that those who did not vaccinate against Covid after returning from vacation could have their duties changed in September, in order to “exclude the risk of contagion due to contacts with other employees”.
If this is not possible, explains the note, “the worker will not be admitted to the company with suspension of pay until the resumption of work “. Therefore, those who do not complete the vaccination cycle risk being left without a salary, even if not fired.
The news provoked the anger of those who oppose the Green pass and distrust the vaccine, but the company explained that evaluations are still underway on how to proceed to “safeguard the right to work and the right to health, which are rights of all “.
“It is not said that we should actually get to the suspension from work, but it is one of the options that are on the table and which will be taken into consideration before September, when work is resumed after the holidays ”, explained a lawyer of the firm to Corriere della Sera.
“It is the company’s belief that the tools for containing the pandemic, primarily vaccines, are and will be essential to avoid the reintroduction of restrictive measures. Protecting the company from biological risks is one of the employer’s obligations in terms of safety in the workplace ”, wrote the company in the letter addressed to employees.
“The legislation in force already provides for the mandatory administration of vaccines such as that against tetanus, against hepatitis B or the anti-tuberculosis vaccine for many categories of workers. In addition, being subjected to vaccination also constitutes an ethical instrument of respect and protection for workers and their families, as well as for all those who already have to live with pathological situations incompatible with the administration of the vaccine, thus remaining subject exposed to contagion in the workplace “, the note continues.
Before making the decision, Sterilgarda had started a table with the unitary union representation within the group and with the occupational doctor who follows the company.
