After Rob Cross had chopped up Ryan Joyce (10-4) and James Wade had sent Austrian Rowby-John Rodriguez home 10-2, it was the turn of reigning world champion Price. The Welshman quickly took a 5-2 lead against Brooks, but the young Englishman won over the crowd by fighting himself back into the game.
With a 7-7 score it was the experience that was decisive: Price managed to break Brooks, who missed no less than three times on double 14. Then Price also took a 9-7 lead. The first match darts were not on The Iceman spent allowing Brooks to make it 9-8, but Price didn’t let it go any further than that. He won 10-8 and can now prepare for the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam of Darts against Jonny Clayton, who beat Nathan Rafferty 10-2. Cross and Wade also face each other in the last eight.
The other four eighth finals are tomorrow with Michael van Gerwen. Mighty Mike takes on Gary Anderson, who knocked out Raymond van Barneveld. If the Dutchman wins, he will play against Michael Smith or Joe Cullen in the quarterfinals. The other two eighth finals tomorrow will be between Peter Wright and José de Sousa and Mensur Suljovic and Fallon Sherrock.
