An overwhelming majority of delegates support the coalition pact that the leaders of the three formations will formally sign this Tuesday
The Liberal Party (FDP), the youngest of the three partners in the new government alliance for Germany, approved this Sunday the agreement of the so-called traffic light coalition drawn up with Social Democrats (SPD) and Greens. It did, however, in an extraordinary congress held virtually – where 92.24% of the delegates supported the aforementioned pact – due to sanitary restrictions due to the advance of COVID-19 infections in this country.
“This is a coalition agreement for a center policy, which does not make our country move to the left, but rather aims to move it forward,” said the president of the FDP, Christian Lindner, in a passionate intervention to defend the tripartite pact. A day after the SPD approved the document with 98.8% of the vote in another extraordinary congress, Lindner said he felt “convinced that this country will benefit from this coalition. A new beginning is possible for Germany. ‘
The liberal leader and the next federal finance minister praised his new Social Democratic partners and the designated federal chancellor, Olaf Scholz, for the mutual respect shown in past negotiations and “having managed with great skill to unite in a sensible way what separated us.”
Social climbing
Lindner stressed that the agreement is full of liberal content such as the promise to promote education and the possibilities of social escalation, but also of social political renewal, with solid finances and with the digitization of the state and society.
This Monday the result of the consultation carried out among the 125,000 members of Los Verdes to decide on the approval of the coalition agreement will be known, which is expected to be positive. On the same day, the Social Democratic Party will announce who has been appointed to assume the seven portfolios that correspond to it in the new Executive, including those of Interior and Labor.
In any case, it will not be until next Tuesday when the leaders of the three formations formally sign the document with the coalition agreement.
