Several local media reported the significant presence of students returning home to spend a long three-day weekend (Monday is a holiday).
“Relief and evacuation operations continue,” the police added. Rescuers were also sent from Austria to assist in the work.
According to the regional chain Bayerischer Rundfunk, the derailment occurred at the height of the town of Burgrain and as a result of the accident several wagons overturned.

Photos published by the German media show the regional train half derailed, with the cars lopsided in a wooded area.
The victims were treated at the scene by doctors. The rescue services had to extract through the windows many of the passengers of the train, which was circulating in the direction of Munich. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
The German Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, is on her way to the scene of the “terrible accident”, according to a Ministry spokesman.

The accident occurred a few tens of kilometers from the place where the G7 leaders’ summit will be held at the end of June, a 5-star complex in Elmau Castle.
This incident also comes two days after the entry into force of a monthly subscription of 9 euros (9.5 dollars) with which you can take all regional trains in Germany, an offer that attracted the Germans and raises fears of a overcrowding of trains.

The heads of the national company Deutsche Bahn had shown their concern before the launch of this subscription for the state of a railway network in full renovation, after years of reductions in investment.
The most serious railway accident in the history of Germany occurred in 1998 due to the derailment of a high-speed train in Eschede (north), which caused 101 deaths.
