On Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz issued an appeal to other European countries to support Ukraine.
Schulz called on other countries in the Union to strengthen their support for Ukraine this year, as they did during the past two years.
Following his meeting with Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden in Berlin, Schulz said that “the arms shipments planned to be delivered to Ukraine by the majority of EU countries are in any case very small.” “For this reason, I call on allies in the European Union to strengthen their efforts on behalf of Ukraine,” he added.
Schulz said that, by the European Union summit scheduled for early next February at the latest, there must be an overview of the contribution that European partners will make to support Ukraine this year.
He added, “Europe must show that it stands strongly with Ukraine, on the side of freedom, international law, and European values.”
Schulz went on to say that his country is currently considered the second strongest supporter of Ukraine after the United States, pointing out that Germany prepared in advance this year to supply weapons and equipment worth 8 billion euros, in addition to financial and humanitarian aid worth billions of euros to Ukraine. Lemna stressed that the German contribution alone will not be enough to guarantee Ukraine's security.
