German Finance Minister Christian Lindner has expressed skepticism about the possibility of launching new spending programs to counter the repercussions of the Corona pandemic crisis.
“During the pandemic, we are used to high aid from the state,” Lindner said in statements to the German newspaper “Welt am Sonntag”, which will be published in its Sunday edition. This stage must end.”
Lindner stated that spending space this year is limited, adding that the situation will be more difficult in 2023 due to the scheduled return to curbing debt, explaining that he opposes the launch of new support programs, and said: “Not all things can be solved with money always.”
On the other hand, Lindner stated that the government does not plan to give rewards to those who receive the vaccination, adding that the most urgent thing now is to work to educate citizens about the importance of receiving the vaccine and modernizing the infrastructure.
Lindner announced government plans to soon pave the way for a coronavirus tax law, which would make it possible to offset current losses with early gains through taxes. “This is important for many businesses,” he said, adding that he would also suggest extending tax cuts when working from home and giving more time to file tax returns.
