Germany is already preparing for the post-war period in Ukraine and therefore plans to discuss Ukraine’s security guarantees with its allies, the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with German broadcaster ARD on Sunday.
The news agency Reuters and Saksalaislehti report on the matter, among others Focus.
“We are discussing the security guarantees we can give [Ukrainalle]. This is an ongoing process,” Scholz said.
“It is clear that this issue is being prepared in the diplomatic arena with a view to the day when the war ends. I hope that day will come soon.”
According to Scholz, however, it is clear that the situation is not the same as when the security of a NATO member country is being guaranteed.
In general, he said that he has discussions about helping Ukraine on a daily basis. The most important thing, according to Scholz, is that the Russian president does not Vladimir Putin win the war.
