Students block the attacker, stopped by the police
BERLIN. Four people were injured in a knife attack on the campus of the University of Hamm-Lippstadt in western Germany before some students were able to immobilize the attacker. He is a 34-year-old, whom the police believe acted alone, although it is not clear at the moment if he is or if he was a student at the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences in North Rhine Westphalia.
According to a police spokesman, the man entered the university building, first attacking people in the corridors. Then he moved to a reading room, where he was blocked by students. The wounded are three women and a man and one of them sustained serious injuries to the point of requiring a transfer to hospital by helicopter. Hamm-Lippstadt University was inaugurated in 2009 and has around 5,600 students. The campus, which has had two locations in Hamm and Lippstadt since 2009, houses the faculties of Engineering, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Economic Sciences. On the spot, the police intervened with massive forces.
