The Scholz Executive once again demonstrates its firm support for the defensive war against Russia
Germany has announced this Thursday the shipment of new heavy war material to Ukraine to support its defensive war against Russia. The Federal Minister of Defense, Christine Lambrecht, announced that this country will supply kyiv with another two ‘Mars II’-type armored missile launchers and two hundred ammunition missiles.
Ukraine already had three other armored missile launchers of this type previously provided by Germany and which are playing a relevant role in the offensive to recover territory invaded by Russia, since they can reach and destroy enemy positions with great precision at a distance of less than one hundred kilometres. In addition, the Berlin Executive will supply Ukraine with fifty armored armored vehicles for the transport of troops of the ‘Dingo’ type, which is usually used for patrolling and reconnaissance missions.
The social democratic politician also stressed that an exchange agreement with Greece is about to be consummated, whereby this country will provide Ukraine forty Soviet-made battle tanks of the ‘BMP 1’ type and Germany will supply the Hellenic country with as many tanks made German type ‘Marder’.
The kyiv government, but also prominent green and liberal politicians from the government coalition in Berlin, have been pressing in recent days for the Executive chaired by the Federal Chancellor, the Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, to send Ukraine as soon as possible more heavy material for the defense of the country.
different requests
In this last announcement of Lambrecht does not appear, however, any of the weapons requested by the authorities of the invaded country. Ukraine has recently demanded that Germany send ‘Leopard II’ main battle tanks and ‘Marder’ type tanks.
The ‘Mars II’ is a tracked, self-propelled, multiple missile launcher artillery system developed during the Cold War to combat Warsaw Pact tanks. Each battery consists of eight launchers that fire anti-tank missiles at a distance that can reach up to a hundred kilometers with great precision.
The three units that Ukraine had up to now have apparently played a relevant role in the counteroffensive carried out in the Kharkov region. The ‘Dingo’ is an armored vehicle armed on wheels with a heavy machine gun of which there are up to sixteen variants and which can carry up to eight soldiers. It has anti-mine protection and has been used by the ‘Bundeswehr’, the federal army, in its missions abroad, both in Afghanistan in the past and in Mali today.
