A man armed with a knife injured several people at the Mannheim market on Friday. The attacker himself died after being shot by the police.
According to AFP, the attacker stabbed the policeman who intervened in the situation several times in the head area. Immediately after the attack, the policeman underwent emergency surgery, after which he was induced into a coma. However, the man did not survive his injuries.
Few of the knife attacker’s other victims, according to media reports, were participating in the demonstration organized by the radical anti-Islam Pax Europa group in Mannheim on Friday.
Among the wounded was, for example, a well-known far-right activist and blogger Michael Sturzenberger. He was supposed to speak at the rally.
So far, there is no information about the knife attacker’s motive. German Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser has called for a thorough investigation of the motive.
