A 26-year-old motorist from the Netherlands passed out at a police check on the German-Austrian border on Friday.
A police border patrol in Piding pulled over his Audi with Dutch registration on Friday morning during a check on the A8 highway just before the German-Austrian border. According to regional media, the agents asked him where the trip was going. The driver stated that he was on his way to Croatia to visit his brother-in-law. When asked if he was carrying anything illegal, he said ‘no’ and opened the trunk of his car at the request of the police.
Inside was a black bag with a rifle about four feet long. According to the twenty-something, it was a ‘harmless’ air rifle for his brother-in-law. After investigation, the officers determined that the weapon had no markings and that it was a powerful air rifle and therefore a very dangerous and in the worst case deadly weapon.
The officers ordered the Dutchman to follow them to the police station. His vehicle was thoroughly checked there. Under the passenger seat, investigators found a plastic bag containing a small amount of marijuana.
After checking his personal data and drawing up an official report, the independent installer was allowed to continue on his way. He had to leave the weapon and the drugs behind. The twenty-something is now awaiting a criminal case for violations of German weapons and drugs laws.
