A 24-year-old kayaker had a fatal accident in Tyrol. After an incident, masses of water swept him away for kilometers.
St. Veit in Defereggen – There was an accident in Austria involving three kayakers from Hanover. The three men were traveling on a whitewater river in the Tyrolean mountains when their path was blocked by a tree trunk. Two of the three kayakers capsized, but they survived the trip. However, a 24-year-old could only be rescued dead.

The men were traveling on the Schwarzach in East Tyrol and boarded the boat on Thursday afternoon (October 10th) in the area of the Bavaria Alm in St. Jakob Tyrolean daily newspaper reported. In the area of St. Veit in Defereggen, two of them capsized because of a tree trunk that got stuck in the river. Including a 31-year-old who, according to police, was able to save himself from the water. A 24-year-old was also able to get out of his boat after it capsized.
However, he sustained injuries and clung to a tree stump in the river. There he was rescued with a rope by a helicopter and flown to the Lienz hospital. The other 24-year-old did not capsize, a police spokeswoman told the German Press Agency. But after getting out of his kayak, he was swept away by the whitewater.

Firefighters rescued him about five kilometers downstream. An emergency doctor tried in vain to revive the young man. He died at the site. More than 70 emergency services from the fire department, water rescue, the Red Cross and the police were involved in the operation.
There was an accident on the Lech just a few months ago. A canoeist from Bavaria was found dead. It’s not just water sports that are popular in the Austrian Alps.
