Newave Energia, a joint venture between Gerdau and the manager Newave Capital, announced this Monday, the 20th, the construction of a new solar energy complex in Goiás, with planned investments of R$1.3 billion.
+ Summer time will generate savings, but there is no energy risk, says minister
The project will be located in the municipality of Barro Alto and will have 452 megawatt-peak (MWp) of installed power, capable of generating approximately 111 average megawatts (MWm). Part of this energy volume will serve Gerdau’s steel production units, and another portion will be sold on the free energy market.
The plant is expected to enter full commercial operation in early 2026. During the construction phase, it is estimated that more than 1,500 direct jobs will be created.
The CEO of Newave Energia and founder of Newave Capital, Edgard Corrochano, highlighted that the project will be entirely financed with Brazilian capital, with part of the resources coming from own capital and another from the Central-West Development Superintendence (Sudeco), in line operated by Banco do Brasil.
“We raised more than 900 million reais in the FIP with more than 15 thousand investors”, said Corrochano, in a note.
“This is another important step in Gerdau’s decarbonization strategy and increasing the competitiveness of our operations in Brazil,” said Elder Rapachi, executive director of Gerdau Next.
Newave Energia was founded in 2022 in an investment from Newave Capital, a manager owned by Edgard Corrochano and XP Inc. Gerdau subsequently announced its entry as a partner in the energy generator, along with the construction of a solar park in Minas Gerais that now is about to be fully energized.
