The chairman of the Duma Committee on Foreign Interference, Vasili Piskarev, announced that it is considering the possibility of recognizing how “the activities of the Clooney Foundation are undesirable within the Russian Federation and its employees”. The initiative to make the foundation of the American actor and his wife, the human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, illegal, was announced after the director of one of the foundation’s projects, Anna Neistat, called for international legal action against Russian journalists who spread the regime’s propaganda.
In an interview with the international broadcaster Voice of America, Neistat proposed considering these journalists as “accomplices in inciting the genocide”, as was done for the Radio des Mille Collines which played a significant role in the genocide in Rwanda.
In response to this stance, Piskaev assured on Telegram that “the vile actions of this American NGO against our journalists will not go unanswered”. The former Russian president Dimitri intervened on the matter with one of his usual utterances on social media Medvedev who on X denounced the fact that “a certain modest actor called George Clooney decided to use his foundation to attack Russian journalists around the world and prosecute them“.
