“Killer, war criminal, genocidal.” These are some of the insults that the Minister of Israeli National Security, the ultra-rightist Itamar Ben-Gvir, in the corridors of the United States Capitol has to listen to.
In an X publication, Ben-Gvir said he concluded his “diplomatic visit to the United States in the Capitol, holding important meetings with high-level congressmen who expressed their full support for Israel.”
In addition, images that show protesters have been disseminated on social networks, interrupting the visit with songs of “free Palestine” and “war criminal.”
Both the Pacifist Organization Code Pink and the Islamic-American Relations Council (Cair) released videos in which activists called Ben-Gvir “War Criminal” and shouted “free Palestine.” In one of them, a person accuses him of having killed his family in Gaza. The images show Ben-Gvir responding to shouting, while security personnel kept both parties separately.
“He completely lost control,” Code Pink wrote in X. “His violent and irritable reaction to a peaceful protest demonstrates the same brutality he exercises daily against the Palestinians.”
The trip-the first of Ben-Gvir to the United States since the government of Prime Minister Benjamín Netanyahu, at the end of 2022-has generated harsh critical, also among pacifist Jewish activists, such as Medea Benjamin.
Ben-Gvir has come to affirm that American Republican legislators support their proposal to bombard food and humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, without specifying who. Even among the Republicans themselves, the Israeli minister is considered too extremist, despite being a key figure in the Netanyahu government coalition.
Thus, Ben-Gvir was not even received by Trump administration officials.
