This is the second boat stopped in the Ligurian capital since the beginning of the year
Genoa – The Port Authority of Genoa has stopped the cargo ship May B, flying the Panamanian flag, for serious irregularities on board. This is the second boat stopped in the Ligurian capital since the beginning of the year. On board, the inspectors ascertained the malfunctioning of the fire-fighting devices, the failure to update the ship plans and the discrepancy in the on-board safety management system.
The ship was identified thanks to the targeting system elaborated by the general command of the Coast Guard which provides for a more detailed analysis of the information of the ships that pass national ports so as to allow an immediate identification of the units at greatest potential risk. In the coming days, under the responsibility of the flag state the ship will be subjected to technical and documentary checks necessary to ensure their safety. Only after these interventions will the inspectors return on board to verify that the deficiencies found are in order and authorize departure.
“The control activity on foreign ships arriving in Italy – recalls Admiral Sergio Liardo, commander of the port of Genoa and Maritime Director of Liguria – is carried out in compliance with international conventions and European directives on the matter”.
