Genoa – The exhibition ” was inaugurated on the notes of the singer-songwriter GiuaPioneer” set up by the Liguria Region in Piazza De Ferrari on the occasion of Women’s Day. This is a selection of shots from the photographic archiveFrancesco Leoni’ chosen to tell the long road taken by Italian women to establish themselves in the workplace, in the world of culture, sport and entertainment. Present at the appointment were the Councilor for Equal Opportunities Simona Ferro, Ilaria Sacchitelli (sister of Sofia, a medical student suffering from a rare heart tumor and committed to raising funds for research), the director of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa Serena Bertolucci, the president of the Galata del Mare Museum Nicoletta Viziano and Anna Dentoni of the MuMa Foundation, the art historian Anna Orlando and Stella Frascà, of the FIGC National Amateur League and lawyer specializing in sports law.
“A beautiful exhibition in Piazza De Ferrari but also widespread in the provincial capitals of our region to remember, on the occasion of the International day of women’s rights, all those who have paved the way, cultivated an excellence, marked a path”, explained the president and councilor for culture of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti via video link from Rome. Simona Ferro, the Regional Councilor for Equal Opportunities, did the honors: “This exhibition is not meant to be a mere celebration, but aims to make known the faces and stories of women, Ligurian and non-Ligurian, who with their example can still be a source of inspiration for present and future generations – she explains – Through the pioneers of yesterday and today we can look to tomorrow with optimism, giving life to a conscious path towards achieving real and concrete gender equality ” .
Many subjects chosen from the vast repertoire of 3 million images from the Leoni Archive, kept at the Galata Del Mare Museum in Genoa, to compose “Pioneer”: normal women, divas, sportsmen, from the 20s to the 70s, all witnesses of the profound changes experienced by Italian society over the decades. Among the black and white portraits exhibited on the interactive totems of “Pioneer” there are those of women who have managed to make their way in sectors previously reserved for men, such as a seaplane pilot, the first driving instructor in 1959 or Anna Maria Coselli, one of the first controllers hired by the railways, or well-known faces from cinema and song visiting Liguria, such as Gina Lollobrigida, Sophia Loren or Rita Pavone.
In addition to tonight’s event, dedicated to the Pioneer exhibition, tomorrow the Liguria Region will celebrate 8 March by transforming the Sala della Trasparenza in Piazza De Ferrari into a real “speakers corner” dedicated to testimonies of the ‘pioneers’ of our day, those more women who have excelled in their fields. From 10 to 20 the speakers will take turns every ten minutes to tell their stories and their life experiences.
