Genoa – 14,157 pairs of sunglasses have been seized by the Goac (Anti-Counterfeiting Operational Group) of the Urban Security Department of the local Police because they unduly carried the false CE mark.
It happened in a shop in Piazza Acquaverde where operators found 10 packs on display sold for 3 euros per pair. The other 14,147 were crammed into the underlying warehouse and upper floor of the year for a total sale value of approximately 42 thousand euros.
The business owner was unable to show purchase invoices and claimed they were “stock funds”. Inside the packs there were information leaflets (the same for all 4 brands in the sample) in which reference was made to the importer, a company from Padua. This was unable to provide the necessary documentation: invoices and certifications for sunglasses, which are considered personal protective equipment and not fashion accessories, based on the Italian regulations that incorporate European ones.
The trader was reported for commercial fraud, sale of industrial products with misleading signs and receiving stolen goods.
The Goac group of the Urban Security department, in recent months, had carried out another seizure of 25 thousand sunglasses, also of Chinese origin, with counterfeit brands and inadequate to protect the eyes, therefore potentially dangerous.
